Knowledge and attitude on maternal care among spouses of a pregnant women

The study titled “A study to assess the level of knowledge and attitude regarding maternal care among spouses of pregnant women attending the antenatal outpatient department at Tambaram Government Hospital” aimed to evaluate husbands’ awareness and attitudes toward maternal care. The objectives were to assess the level of knowledge and attitude on maternal care and to determine their association with selected demographic variables. A descriptive research design was used, and data were collected from spouses of pregnant women using a structured questionnaire Both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied for data analysis. Results revealed a mean knowledge score of 7.43 (SD = 2.50) and a mean attitude score of 34.23 (SD = 12.14). A significant positive correlation was found between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.694, p< 0.05). Among participants, 76.7% had moderately adequate knowledge, 16.6% had inadequate knowledge, and 6.7%had adequate knowledge. Regarding attitude, 50%had a moderately favorable attitude, 40% had a favourable attitude, and 10%had an unfavourable attitude. The study concludes that most spouses possess moderate knowledge and attitude toward maternal care, emphasizing the need for health education and awareness programs** to promote male involvement in maternal health.
