Menopausal symptoms among women in selected areas of Baramulla Jammu and Kashmir

Menopause is one of the most significant events in a woman's life and brings in a number of physiological changes that affect the life of a woman permanently (Pronob KD). Menopause is a universal biological change in women life, typically occurring between 45-55 years of age (WHO). However, its symptoms vary across regions due to geographical, cultural, dietary, and climatic differences. This study was undertaken to explore and describe the menopausal symptoms experienced by women residing in the Kashmir Valley. A descriptive research design was adopted 100 sample was taken, and data were collected through a structured interview schedule based on the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Findings indicated that Kashmiri women experience a variety of symptoms including vasomotor disturbances, musculoskeletal discomfort joint and muscular pain 62%, psychological changes, sleep problems, urogenital issues, and cognitive alterations. The unique cold climate, limited sunlight exposure, about discussing reproductive health, and restricted access to healthcare services significantly influence the menopausal experience in this region. The study highlights the need for culturally sensitive awareness programs, improved health services, and support systems for menopausal women in Kashmir.
