
Introduction: Bio Medical waste is hazardous poisoning series threats to environmental health and it require specific treatment and management prior to final disposal. The problem is growing with an ever increasing number of hospitals, clinics, all diagnostic laboratories. Good healthcare waste management in a hospital depends on a dedicated waste management team, good administration, careful planning, sound organization, underpinning legislation, adequate financing and full participation by trained staff.
Objective: 1) To assess the level of knowledge regarding Bio-Medical waste management 2.) To assess the practice regarding Bio-Medical Waste Management, 3.) To find out association between level of knowledge and practice with selected socio-economic variables. 4) To provide information pamphlets regarding Bio-Medical waste management.
Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted among 60 Staff Nurses in selected hospital. A descriptive non-experimental approach was adopted and non-probably, purposive sampling technique was used to select the subjects. The data was collected by using structured questionnaire and checklist. The obtained data was analyzed by using statistics including Mean, Mean percentage, standard deviation, Karl Pearson’s split half method and chi-square test.
Conclusion: The study concluded that majority of nurses have high knowledge regarding bio-medical waste management.
