abstract
Human Papilloma virus (HPV) leads to various types of cancer comprising the mouth, throat, anus, and genitals cancer in human beings. Among that, the second most prevalent form of cancer is cervical cancer in women in India. Many studies suggest that, HPV vaccination could prevent the occurrence of cervical cancer. Further, Educators assume a crucial role in disseminating information to children and parents, they should have enough knowledge on Cervical Cancer and its prevention through HPV vaccination. The current study aims to evaluate the knowledge of school teachers regarding cervical cancer and HPV vaccination at selected schools of Kolar District, Karnataka, to create a module for self-instruction. A cross-sectional descriptive design was used in this study to select 70 school teachers through a purposive sampling technique. Self-administered semi-structured knowledge questionnaires was used to collect data along with demographic variables. The samples were selected based on inclusive criteria. Out of 70 teachers, 42 (60%) had poor knowledge, 21 (30%) had average knowledge, and only 7 (10%) had good knowledge of cervical vaccination and HPV vaccination. The average knowledge score was 11.2 with 1.476 SD. The study concluded that, the teachers need enormous in-depth knowledge on prevention of cervical cancer through HPV vaccination. Delivering knowledge to teachers empowers them to impart information to others. Hence, a self-directed module was distributed to improve the knowledge level of school teachers.
